Troubleshooting
Fixes for the problems you’re most likely to run into.
Labaro won’t open
- macOS says it can’t check Labaro for malicious software, or there’s no Open button: see Open it the first time.
- macOS says Labaro is damaged: see “Labaro is damaged and can’t be opened”.
- Labaro says this version has expired: download the latest. See Updates and beta expiry.
A service is blank or stuck
- If its icon has a moon, it’s asleep. Click it to wake it.
- Right-click its icon and choose Reload.
- If that doesn’t help, open Debug → Logs and pick the service, to see whether its page reported errors.
- Still stuck? Start it afresh. See Reset and uninstall.
Links or sign-in open in your browser
Links to other sites are meant to open in your browser. If a service sends you to your browser halfway through signing in, or keeps opening browser tabs, it’s using a site Labaro doesn’t know about yet. See When a site opens in the wrong place.
You keep being signed out
- Two accounts of the same service sign each other out on macOS 13 or earlier. Each service only gets a sign-in of its own on macOS 14 or later.
- Slack’s “Sign in with Google” doesn’t work. Use your email address and password, or a sign-in link.
A badge is wrong or out of date
- Gmail, Slack, X and Instagram are checked every minute, so their badges can be up to a minute behind.
- Other sleeping services are checked every 5 minutes, so theirs can be up to 5 minutes behind.
- A sleeping service with notifications off isn’t checked at all. Its badge stays as it was until you wake it.
- A service you’ve been signed out of keeps its last badge. Click it to sign in again.
To check every sleeping service now, press ⌃⌥⌘N.
Notifications don’t arrive
Work down this list:
- Are they on for the service? Right-click its icon, choose Edit…, and check Show notifications.
- Does macOS allow them? Check System Settings → Notifications → Labaro.
- Is a Focus mode on? Look in Tools → Notifications. If the notification is there, Labaro sent it and macOS held it back.
- Is the service asleep? A sleeping Gmail, Slack, X or Instagram doesn’t send notifications, and other sleeping services can be up to 5 minutes late. For notifications at all times, untick Put this service to sleep when it’s idle in its Edit window.
- Is Labaro running? Closing its window quits it. Minimize it instead.
Notifications has more on what can and can’t be shown.
There’s no dot on the Dock icon
macOS may not be letting Labaro badge its icon. Allow it in System Settings → Notifications → Labaro.
WhatsApp won’t load
If WhatsApp shows an error about its storage, or never gets past loading, its saved data has probably gone wrong. Start it afresh:
- Right-click its icon, choose Delete… and confirm.
- Add WhatsApp again.
- Link it again with your phone. See Notes by service.
Labaro is using a lot of memory
- Open Debug → Tasks to see which service is using it.
- Click Reload next to a service that’s grown large.
- Let services sleep sooner, or start the ones you rarely use asleep. See Sleep and memory.
- To be told next time, turn on the memory alert in Settings.
Something else
Look in Debug → Logs for what the service was doing. Then report it with Help → Report a Bug, as described in Tasks, Logs and Console.
